First Electric Touring Motorcycle to go on 80 days tour around the globe!

The student team STORM will departure from Eindhoven on Sunday to begin their trip around the world. This will be done In 80 days and the distance to be covered will be a whooping 26,000 kilometers.

The team

Composed of 23 students from the Eindhoven University of Technology. theses students have been working for two years, in order to develop the world's first electric Touring Motorcycle. This was a self build motorcycel, the event will bring attention from the audience and it will also provide the ultimate endurance test for all the used technical components. In addition, this trip can be the ideal preparation for the amazing 80 Day Race, a competition in which several land vehicles compete against each other over a distance of 40,000 kilometers.

The journey

It will take over the northern hemisphere, starting in Europe towards Central Asia and then continuing the trip to North America before being driven back to Eindhoven  there will be a last stage in Paris. On November 2, the team must have returned with the bike. Keep in mind that this bike weight is 360 kg and it can drive 380 kilometers on one battery charge.

The self-designed battery pack

24 loose cartridges that are good for up to 28.5 kWh of energy, can be replaced within seven minutes through an already charged battery pack. Every day, the batteries are charged via the local power grid, companies, universities or people's homes.

Jan Peter Balkenende, himself also a motorsports fan who follows the development of the hydrogen racer Forze Delft on foot, he is committed to this project as an ambassador. "I myself am a 'petrol head', i love cars and racing, design and new materials. And when the team of STORM asked if I wanted to be an ambassador, I immediately said yes, "he responded. "I did it for two reasons: first, the climate issue; the need to do things differently, and secondly because they want to contribute to the new reality. They contribute to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. "

warmup

The team was originally launched to participate in 80 Day Race, a competition with electric land vehicles over 40,000 kilometers. Include multiple Dakar Rally winner and tour director Hubert Auriol as part of this class. The student team was ready earlier than the realization of the first race, so the Eindhoven team STORM chose to, showcase their own event and of course a world-first: The STORM World Tour.

I wish them all good luck ! I hope the motorcycle handles the challenge and that this becomes a pioneer step to further development of 2 wheels on battery power! Now to complete this process can someone please invent biodegradable batteries?

Excited with these new Technologies!
