A robot that rides the new R1 and wants to pass #vr46, Yamaha presents: MOTOBOT

Humans... nah not really.. Yamaha is way over them, specially with all the drama generated from MotoGP lately (ahahahaha) so Yamaha surprised (again) and it has unveiled Motobot, a robot designed to ride superbikes much like a human would -- it is a human mimic attempt so motobot even has to twist the throttle to get moving.

This initial version travels slowly and needs training wheels to avoid tipping over in a turn, so it's not about to compete on the MotoGP circuit just yet. However, Yamaha ultimately hopes to get Motobot blasting along at more than 120MPH on a race track.

It goes so far as to put racing legend #vr46 Valentino Rossi on notice, as you'll see in the promo video below. Now dont be alarmed we are not going to see any time soon robots taking over racing leagues, Yamaha sees its robotic rider as a test bed for rider safety and support systems. Think of this as inspiring creative solutions to unusual problems, rather than an explicit attempt to beat flesh-and-bone motorcyclists -- any race victories are just icing on the cake.

MOTOBOT is an autonomous motorcycle-riding humanoid robot that approaches riding operations from a human rider’s standpoint — with no modifications made to the motorcycle itself. The development theme is “Beyond Human Capabilities.” In general, robots are developed to specialize in a specific task and this typically allows them to surpass the capability of humans for that task. Utilizing this advantage, the end goal of MOTOBOT is to become capable of competing against Valentino Rossi’s lap times around a racetrack. The knowledge and highly advanced fundamental technologies gained from this challenge will be put to use in developing new products and creating new value.

#MotoGP2016 - Before and Aftermath of the first race of #VR46

Valentino Rossi: “I‘m happy about the test and about today because, first of all, we did a good job and tried a lot of different stuff that gave some good information on how to improve the bike. I also set a 2‘00.5s, I think we can work on it and do better, but I‘m in second place so that‘s not so bad, it was a good test. We still have to work a lot, the question mark that remains is if we go with the bike that‘s more like the 2015 or the 2016 model. We will try them another time in Phillip Island, because the new one was not so bad at the end. I think all the engineers did a good job with the electronics and Michelin did a good job with the front tyres. We tried other tyres that also improved more, so I feel good about the first test. I tried the winglets, they are very interesting, they change the airflow, but I don‘t feel a difference. I prefer the bike without the wings, it‘s more beautiful!”

just by looking at his "team mate"..

The Doctor apparently needs to join the winglet fans cus it makes a huge difference, Nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi admitted that although he only finished a couple of seconds behind yesterday’s Qatar MotoGP winner Jorge Lorenzo, he didn’t have enough pace to be in the podium fight.

VR46 finished the race in 4th place and although he was sniffing around the rear tires of Marquez and Dovisioso he admits not having the speed to attempt an attack. Though Rossi, also dampened this by saying he is competitive and he is not done yet, so perhaps further testing with the soft rear as used by his Movistar Yamaha team-mate could improve drastically his performance.

The Doctors words: “At the end it was a great race, the pace was very fast from the beginning to the end, but unfortunately I stayed behind and I didn’t have enough speed to try and attack. I was there but I was never in the real fight, I was always a little bit behind. We need a faster pace and maybe the tyre choice can make some difference, but we don’t know. Maybe with the soft tyre I could go faster or I could go slower,”

“We arrived behind and unfortunately didn’t get on the podium, but it was a good race anyway, with a good start. We are there, we have to work, but for sure we are competitive. Last year in Argentina was a great race, one of the best with a great pace and I was coming from behind, but this year it will be a different story, especially with the tyres. We need to understand our potential this year.” go #VR46 !!

Who is looking up for the summer ?

Mulholland Highway

Mulholland Highway is the dream destination for the knee down addicts, Probably the most famous road in California, its proximity to Los Angeles has made it the playground of the rich and famous. Jay Leno is a frequent visitor to The Rock Store with his collection of vintage cars and bikes.

The road connects “the valley”, a large suburban area to the north, with the beach area just north of the rich and famous Malibu. This area is home to many of the best roads in So Cal, but most enthusiasts spend their time on “The Snake”, a short 21 turn section just above the popular Rock Store. The Snake is heavily photographed on weekends and attracts those looking to showboat a bit for the cameras. “Edwards’ Corner”, the final turn heading up The Snake, is a popular spot for people to congregate and watch others come up the hill.

During the motorcycle boom of the 1980’s CHP crackdowns on motorcycle racing put a wet blanket on riding in the area, but budget cuts since then have kept enforcement to a minimum.

The Snake

A short section of Mulholland Hwy directly above The Rock Store that is a favorite place for local motorcyclists, drivers, and cyclists to test their skills against the road. Heavily congested on weekends, but a wonderful ride during the week.

I am subscribed to RnickeyMouse channel and if you like to see kneepucks getting scrapped to dust then you should too, this guy is capturing some of the best moments of the snakes bite , I just love to see people going up/down the turns dropping their knee down, however keep in mind the public roads are not the same thing as a racetrack, the guardrails can injure you a lot if not kill you, be aware of that:

Be Safe, Drive Safe, Keep it safe. Twist that wrist!
